Escharotomy
(Interstitial Pressure / Burn Induced Compartment Syndrome)
In addition to its proven use in debriding burn wounds, Debrase® Gel Dressing (DGD) has shown efficacy in treating Burn Induced Compartment Syndrome (BICS). Circumferential burns, mainly in the upper and lower extremities may develop BICS that endanger blood circulation and viability of nerves, muscles and skin and may end in amputation of a hand or leg. At present surgical escharotomy is the emergency procedure that resolves this condition but unfortunately in many cases it is executed too late and involves scarring.

Surgical escharotomy performed on a circumferential burn of an arm illustrating the pressure release of the interstitial tissues.
DGD early application facilitates the prevention and reduction of increased compartment pressure reducing the need for surgical escharotomy.
Additional clinical trials will be conducted.
Initial clinical experience of 81 deep hand burn wounds treated with DGD, none had to be surgically debrided and none had to undergo escharotomy.
Wound Management
MediWound is developing additional debriding and wound care agents, which have potential proprietary use in indications such as chronic wounds.
